WHAT IS FIRE & ICE
Share
Your life already has plenty of constant chronic stress.
What it doesn’t have is the hormetic stress that we evolved for.
Hormetic stress (or hormesis) is the biological principle where exposure to a low, manageable dose of a stressor triggers the body’s cellular defenses, resulting in increased resilience, repair, and overall health.
In short: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, as long as it's the right dose.
That’s what Fire & Ice is for.
What is Fire & Ice?
Fire & Ice is our sauna + cold plunge contrast therapy circuit at True North Float.
You move through 45 minutes of:
- Fire: deep heat in the sauna (about 180 degrees)
- Rest: rinse off in the shower, pause, breathe, and integrate
- Ice: a deliberate plunge into icy cold water (45-50 degrees)
It’s not about “being hardcore” for Instagram. It’s about training your nervous system to meet intensity so you can come back to center on purpose.
Think of it as a dojo where the curriculum is heat, cold, and will.
Why Play with Fire (and Ice)?
Modern stress is sneaky: constant, low‑level, and rarely finished.
Emails, bills, kids, news. Your body keeps bracing, but there’s no bell that rings to say “Okay, you survived. You can relax now.”
Hot–cold contrast is different:
- You choose it
- You know when it starts and ends
- You get a ton of biological rewards
Your system learns:
“I can meet intensity, breathe through it, and come back stronger.”
That lesson leaks into everything else.
The Gifts of Fire
Sauna is like a warm, glowing pressure wash for your insides.
Regular heat exposure has been shown to:
- Support heart health by increasing blood flow and improving how your blood vessels relax
- Reduce inflammation and muscle soreness
- Boost mood by nudging up endorphins and other feel‑good chemicals
- Help your brain by increasing blood flow and supporting cognitive function over time
You sit, you sweat (a lot), your mind slows down, and your body remembers what it’s like to be warm all the way into your bones.
The Medicine of Ice
The cold is honest. Ruthless. It doesn’t care about your story.
A cold plunge will:
- Spike norepinephrine, giving a natural, clean alertness
- Wake up circulation, especially as blood vessels constrict in the cold and then reopen after
- Calm inflammation and support recovery after training or long days on your feet
- Sharpen your mind, because nothing brings you into the present like cold water on skin
And here’s the invisible piece:
Every time you choose to get in when your brain says “uh, nope!” you’re forging real willpower. Not the motivational‑poster kind. The kind that aligns your outer actions with your inner potential.
Why Fire + Ice?
Sauna or cold exposure alone are great. But together, they reach another level:
- Circulation upgrade: hot expands blood vessels, cold constricts them. The pump‑and‑flush effect moves blood and lymph through places that usually stagnate.
- Recovery support: more circulation + less inflammation = happier muscles and joints.
- Immune support: regular heat/cold exposure is linked to more resilient immune function.
- Nervous system training: you practice going from “this is intense” back to “I’m okay” over and over in one session.
It’s like interval training for resilience. 45-minute sprints to wellness glory.
What to Expect
Arrival & briefing
We walk you through the flow, talk about how you’re feeling that day, and set an intention: recovery, stress relief, mental edge, or just “I want to feel alive again.”
Fire
You start in the sauna, let the heat sink into your muscles, and begin to sweat. Breathing slows, mind unwinds. As you begin to pour out sweat (and toxins), you feel hormesis working its magic. Breathe through the discomfort, but listen to your body. 10-20 minutes is perfect.
Rinse
You step out, rinse off, let your system recalibrate. Take a breathe, and take the plunge.
Ice
You step into the plunge. It’s intense at first. You focus on your breath and remind yourself: you are not your panic. You’re the one breathing through it. Then you reach the zone, pure inner calm amidst the storm. 3 minutes is all it takes for a cascade of epic benefits.
Repeat
Then—if it feels right—you go again. Heat, rinse, cold, rest.
Afterglow
Post‑session, most people feel lighter, clearer, and strangely proud. You did something hard on purpose, and your whole system knows it.
The Warrior: Fire & Ice + Float
If Fire & Ice is where you train your edges, the Warrior package is where you train your recovery.
You run the F&I circuit first: heat, cold, breath, repeat. Your whole system gets wrung out and lit up.
Then you step into the float.
After that deliberate storm of sensation, the tank feels like stepping into deep space: weightless, silent, nothing to manage. The nervous system that just practiced meeting intensity now gets a long, uninterrupted window to integrate it.
The result isn’t just “relaxed.” It’s a kind of grounded, earned calm that comes from doing something hard on purpose and then giving your body the perfect place to let go.
Highly recommended for anyone with a racing mind that struggles to quiet the mind and drop into a deeper float.
Fire & Ice won’t make you superhuman. It will make you more human: less numbed out, more awake, and more capable of meeting real‑life stress without collapsing or checking out.
But lets be real: these days, that might as well mean super-human.
If your life feels like a slow drip of endless stress, Fire & Ice is a space to hit the reset button, and walk out carrying that button with you.
